Bridgestone 2027
With 2025 in the rearview, we look to try and compete in the 2027 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge
The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is the most prestigious solar car challenge, held every two years. The race runs 3000 km (around 1850 miles) from Darwin to Adelaide through the Australian Outback. The race usually takes between 4 and 6 days and is typically done by collegiate teams. While the schedule for the 2027 Challenge is not released yet, typically it is held sometime between July and October.
We are currently constructing a new car for this race, and hope to make it to Australia in 2027! This will be a huge step forward for our team, and by far the hardest thing we have ever attempted.
As we build we will be regularly posting updates on our blog (tab on this website) and our Instagram.
Stay tuned on our progress!

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is very different from The Solar Car Challenge in many ways. For us the biggest differences include much stricter rules around quite literally everything on the car, most notably safety and an extreme focus on efficiency. In addition, the teams that usually compete here are University level or higher teams. Finally, the logistics and scale of operations is vastly larger than what is found in events based on our own continent.

After five races in The Solar Car Challenge, we’ve pushed our own technology beyond what we thought was possible. After the 2025 race, when deciding what to do going forward, we thought that attempting a new challenge would be most beneficial for our teams learning and growth, and we also thought that a brand new adventure has some amazing possibilities.

This car has to be the best we’ve ever built, no questions asked. We plan to build another fully composite car, and have been working behind the scenes for months to better simulate and test aerodynamics and structural safety. Additionally, we’ve been working toward quite a few things with our electronics and strategy teams, although that will have to remain a secret for now…

Ember remains in service with the team as a show and test vehicle. While the mechanical structure will remain unchanged for this role we will continue to replace the electrical systems in order to test components for our new car.
